At its regular meeting on Sept. 9, the Belleville Area District Library board approved the resolutions authorizing voter-approved millages to be put on the December 2025 tax bill.
Every year the board passes resolutions to place the levy on the winter property tax bills of Van Buren, Belleville, and Sumpter.
In other business at the one-hour meeting on Sept. 9, the board:
• Heard Hanna Rodriguez, board member of Guiding Harbor, tell about its fundraiser and annual auction Nov. 8 at 6 p.m. at the Diamondback music hall. Tickets are on sale now. There are free food, free drinks, free entertainment, and many opportunities to spend money for the benefit of Guiding Harbor;
• Approved getting landscaping to replace the dead foliage outside the library with black chokeberry;
• Heard that the vape detectors have been installed and already caught people vaping in the library. The violators have been kicked out for the day;
• Learned that there is a Fall Kitten Café planned on Saturday, Sept. 20 from 1-4 p.m. in the Story Time room in the main library. For more information call (734) 699-3291;
• Learned that on Saturday, Sept. 27, at 2 p.m. the Detroit Institute of Arts will present “DIA: The Essentials.” They will explore select artworks of the DIA to gain an appreciation for the diversity, quality, and world-class status of the museum’s collection; and
• Learned there will be a presentation called “Classic Michigan Food and Drinks” on Sept. 25, 6:30 p.m., at the main library in Belleville. The presentation will focus on food products made in Michigan.
