Alice Payne was surprised with honors from the Belleville Rotary Club and First United Methodist Church at the July 23 meeting of the Rotary Club.
Payne was presented with the Paul Harris Fellow medallion from the Rotary and a speech from Rev. Greg Buchner telling of her many years working with her late husband Dean on feeding the hungry members of the community through the Rotary and church.
Rev. Buchner presented a bouquet of flowers from the church and Rotary president Rachel Kozlowski presented another bouquet.
The Paul Harris Fellow recognition acknowledges individuals who contribute, or who have contributions made in their name, of $1,000 to The Rotary Foundation. Rotary established the recognition in 1957 to encourage and show appreciation for substantial contributions to what was then the Foundation’s only program, Rotary Foundation Fellowships for Advanced Study, the precursor to Ambassadorial Scholarships.
The late Dean Payne also was a Paul Harris Fellow.
