“It took us almost a year to plan this awesome bake sale,” said third-grade Edgemont Elementary School student Addison Asher.
“We felt bad for kids that had to sit in the hospital all day while we were outside playing. We wanted to donate money to help kids with cancer, so we organized a bake sale and raffle basket fund raiser.”
Edgemont leaders Addison Asher, Abigail Cichowski, and Ella Mida organized the event and recruited 19 other students to stay after school to create posters, practice counting change, and draft donation request letters.
Edgemont students and three Junior National Honor Society student volunteers staffed the sale entirely.
Co-leader Cichowski said, “We raised $505.05 just from our bake sale during conferences. We decided to donate the money to the Mott’s Child and Family Life Program.”
“So many parents and students came and participated. We’d like to thank everyone who brought things and donated money!” leader Ella Mida stated. “It felt amazing that we raised all that money to help them. We didn’t expect to raise as much money as we did.”
“The Edgemont family is inspired and very proud of these young leaders! Their compassion, positivity, and genuine desire to improve the world gives us hope for the future,” said third-grade teacher Stacy (Porzondek) English, who wrote the news released about her class.
