“Water Drive on the Waterfront” was the winning entry in the March 3 SOUP Project competition for New Tech students at Belleville High School.
The winning team earned a $500 check from the Belleville Downtown Development Authority to do its project, which is to collect water at Horizon Park and deliver it to Flint in a U-Haul truck, along with meals for kids. This collection is projected to take place on July 18 while the car show is running on Main Street.
Members of the winning team are Kayla Trackwell, Emily Williams, Raven LaPalme, and Rebekah Sacco.
Other presenters of the four different projects in the New Tech SOUP competition were Nigel Parker, Max Walls, Elizabeth Blackburn, James Clearwood, Dayde Koths, Taylor Clement, and Adam Bracey. Other projects were “Play at the Park: Learn about Community Sports Programs,” “BE3 History of Gaming Exhibit and Tournament,” and “Frankfurters for Firefighters.”
New Tech Director Scott Wilsey said the students do the competition preparation on their own and it is not for credit or a grade. “They spend their own time,” Wilsey said.
