Van Buren Township Police are investigating the armed robbery and assault of the owner of Dominic’s Liquor & Deli in the Haggerty Center Plaza, 9880 Haggerty Road, at about 10:56 a.m. Thursday, Feb. 2.
VBT Police Captain Gregory Laurain said a lone male entered the business armed with a handgun, demanding money from the employees, and then hitting the owner on the head with a tire iron he produced.
The suspect took an unknown amount of cash before running off to the east. Early reports said he had jumped into a waiting van.
The suspect is described as being a tall, thin, black male with a light complexion, wearing black pants and a dark blue pullover with three letters on the front. He was wearing a baseball cap with an English D on the front. A purple-colored handkerchief was wrapped around his face.
The store owner was transported by Huron Valley Ambulance to Annapolis Hospital in Wayne with head injuries.
Another business person in the Haggerty Center said she was told the store owner’s skull was cracked. He has a wife and young son. She asked for prayers for the family.
Captain Laurain confirmed this is the second robbery at the same store in the last eight months or so.
Anyone with information is urged to call detectives at 734-699-8922.
“The suspect is to be considered armed and dangerous,” Captain Laurain warned.
