Fifteen people accepted honors from Van Buren Township during the Sept. 14 meeting of the VBT Board of Trustees.
Clerk Leon Wright presented framed resolutions signed by the board marking individuals who have worked as election inspectors.
Those honored for serving 30 years and more were Sophie Zoller, Joseph Majewski, Shirley Elmore, and Brian Derr and his wife Cynthia (who traveled from Traverse City to receive the award on behalf of his late mother Hope Derr).
Honored for 20 years or more were Melanie Majewski, Fay Taylor, and Paul Bostwick. Honored for 15 years or more were Marjorie Riggs, Novella Hamiel, Ray Bergeron, Connie Testorelli on behalf of her late mother Agnes Cook, David and Mark Cook on behalf of their father Bob Cook who recently moved from the community, and Joanne Brogdon on behalf of her late husband Clarence Brogdon.
Unable to attend the meeting were Cleva Lubke, more than 30 years; Frances Ensch, more than 20 years; and Nancy Carey, more than 15 years.
Clerk Wright referred to the election workers as “ambassadors” and “Champions of Democracy.”
