The Van Buren Township Downtown Development Authority held a special meeting on Dec. 6 with only one item on the agenda: a closed-door session.
The Notice of the Special Meeting announced the meeting was to “Consider a legal opinion from the DDA’s legal counsel.”
The Notice of Closed Session was announced as “To consider and discuss legal matters with DDA attorney.”
The Independent asked for the DDA’s attorney Suzanne Bartos to name the issue to be discussed and she said what was announced was all that was needed. No issue was named.
After a 26-minute closed-door session, the meeting was reopened to the public and DDA member Velon Willis made a motion to accept the legal counsel opinion, which was passed unanimously by those present. The meeting was immediately adjourned.
Chairman Craig Atchinson and secretary Chris Brown were absent and excused. DDA members Vic Delibera, Dawn Chappell, and Willis were late and entered the closed meeting after it had started.
