VBT Board approves rezoning of property on Savage so family can sell

In a 12-minute special meeting on June 28, the Van Buren Township Board of Trustees approved the second (final) reading of the rezoning of a land-locked Light Industrial parcel behind two residential parcels so the family can sell its property.
The 1.54 acres being rezoned is behind 841 Savage Road.
The owners, Mr. and Mrs. Richard Stull, have lived at that address for 53 years and wanted to sell the property and move to Florida. They had a potential buyer, but the landlocked, M-1 property behind their two front Residential parcels could not be combined as is and causes trouble with financing.
Their Realtor Brad Jordan told the Planning Commission at its June 8 meeting, when Stull was too ill to attend, that the front parcels, less than a half acre, list for $110,000-115,000, whereas all three parcels would list for between $150,000-$250,000.
Ron Akers, VBT director of planning and economic development, gave a presentation on the proposal to the planning commission with his recommendation to approve. The planners agreed and sent their recommendation to the board to approve the rezoning.
Commissioner Bryon Kelley asked if there is any way to expedite the rezoning for the Stulls so they can sell their home.
At the June 28 special meeting of the board, Akers was there to support the final rezoning action. No one else was in the audience.
The June 28 meeting was chaired by Trustee Phillip Hart, in the excused absences of Supervisor Linda Combs, Clerk Leon Wright, and Treasurer Sharry Budd.
During the brief meeting, two letters from the public were read praising the professional work of VBT police officers and Trustee Brenda McClanahan read a statement also praising the Public Safety Department.
