Van Buren Township is hiring youth positions, ages 16-24, for the R.E.A.L. (Revealing Exceptionally Amazing Leaders) summer youth program.
Positions include youth community manager, groundskeeper, community ambassadors team leaders, and community ambassadors. All positions are paid and range from $12 to $22 per hour.
“Once again, Van Buren Township is excited to offer the R.E.A.L. program to area youth,” said Supervisor Kevin McNamara. “Now in its fifth year, our summer program offers students real-life skills and helps them build lifelong relationships. It’s always a lot of fun for the students and staff!”
The six-week program is designed to provide youth participants with the opportunity to develop marketable skills in a “REAL” work environment. Students are guaranteed 20 hours a week during a three-day work week.
Important deadlines and dates include:
• Youth candidates must complete and submit the application packet back to the township by June 15;
• The township will contact the chosen candidates by June 18 and schedule an interview;
• Final hires will be contacted Friday, June 25, and will be required to complete a drug screen and physical by June 30;
• Program begins Tuesday, July 6, and ends Thursday, Aug. 12.
Candidates are required to:
• Display acceptable work habits;
• Have reliable transportation;
• Provide proper employment documentation from their school;
• Have the ability to acquire and apply basic work skills;
• Follow all rules set forth by Van Buren Charter Township management; and
• Demonstrate regular and consistent attendance throughout the entire six weeks.
“This year we will be introducing Entrepreneurship-19,” said Human Resource Director Nicole Sumpter. “The pandemic produced a next generation of entrepreneurs and we are going to open the doors for our youth.”
