On Tuesday, May 7, at about 2:34 a.m. the Van Buren Township Public Safety Department and Huron Valley Ambulance responded to the area of Belleville Road just south of Ecorse Road to investigate a two-vehicle head-on collision.
The preliminary investigation conducted by VBT Police found that a 17-year-old male driver from Canton Township was traveling southbound on Belleville Road when he crossed the center line and struck a vehicle traveling northbound on Belleville Road.
A 64-year-old man from Van Buren Township who was operating the vehicle traveling northbound was pronounced dead at the scene. The driver of the southbound vehicle was transported to St. Joseph Mercy Hospital by HVA and was listed in stable condition.
The VBT Public Safety Department shut down the roadway while the Accident Investigation Team was called to the scene to conduct the follow-up investigation, record accident data, and secure physical evidence.
