A new report from the U.S. Census Bureau reports on median household incomes and percentage of people in poverty for populations under $65,000 in the Metro-Detroit area.
In the tri-community, the averages, from 2011 to 2015, were reported as:
• Belleville, median household income of $45,452, with 16.3% in poverty;
• Sumpter Township, median income of $53,155, with 22% in poverty; and
• Van Buren Township, median income of $55,309, with 11.3% in poverty.
In 2015 the federal poverty level is an individual annual income of less than $12,082.
The median household income for the state in 2015 was $51,084.
In the Metro-Detroit area, Brighton Township in Livingston County had a median household income of $94,721, with 3.5% in poverty. The City of Brighton had a median household income of $60,910, with 10.2% in poverty.
