Two, four-year, non-partisan seats on the Belleville City Council will be filled in the Nov. 5 election.
The terms of council members Brian Blackburn and Kim Tindall will expire Dec. 2, 2013.
Blank petitions for the seats will be available July 23 through Aug. 6 from City Clerk / Treasurer Lisa Long at City Hall. The deadline to turn in the signed petitions is before 4 p.m., Aug. 13.
Clerk/Treasurer Long said petitions need at least 20 valid signatures and no more than 40.
Under the City Charter, a candidate for elective office must have been a resident of the city for one year prior to the date of the election and be a registered voter of the city.
Long said that Belleville does not have a primary election, like some other cities, because of the wording in Belleville’s City Charter.
The new city council terms will end in December 2017.
