Three people, including two children, were seriously injured in a July 30 crash caused by a reckless driver on I-94 in Van Buren Township, according to Michigan State Police.
Police said a driver crashed into another car in the westbound lanes on the freeway while crossing multiple lanes just before Belleville Road to try to make an exit at 2 p.m. Tuesday, July 30.
The car that was hit rolled up the right embankment and back down onto the service drive, according to police.
An adult and two children, ages 8 and 9, inside the overturned car were seriously injured in the crash and were taken to a nearby hospital, police said.
The driver who caused the crash was not hurt in the crash, according to police. Investigators say they do not believe alcohol, drugs, or medication were factors in the crash, police said.
“We continue to see preventable crashes caused by risky driving behaviors,” said Michigan State Police First Lt. Mike Shaw. “A family received serious injuries because a driver couldn’t just wait to the next exit. Be aware of your location and make smart decisions behind the wheel.”
