On May 14 the Belleville Rotary Club held its 68th-Annual Scholarship Award Program. Ten scholarships in the amount of $2,000 each were awarded to Belleville High School graduates.
The club recognized seven recipients of first-time scholarships and three recipients of second-year renewal scholarships.
New scholarship recipients are: Jonas Acuna, Kyle Archer, Daizchane Baker, Asia Dobbins, Destiny Lanay Eadie, Samantha Henning, and Roderick Walker II.
Second-year renewal scholarships were awarded to: Jennifer Henry, Zachary Juchartz, and Jacob Long.
After welcoming remarks and an overview of Rotary’s scope and purpose by Belleville Rotary Club President David Parrott, Rotarian Debra Juchartz discussed the history of the club scholarship program, outlined the proceedings of the evening, and offered greetings to the numerous local dignitaries in attendance.
Juchartz, who is also the chair of the club Scholarship Committee, then introduced the featured speaker, Scott LaRiche, noted automotive dealer executive and Plymouth Rotarian.
LaRiche’s presentation, directed primarily at the student awardees, stressed the importance of attitude in the success of every individual.
He pointed out that attitude, whether positive or negative, is a choice that an individual makes every day. The scholars were encouraged to maintain a positive attitude in the face of inevitable challenges as they progress through life.
After LaRiche’s talk, each of the scholarship recipients gave a brief biographical summary and commented on their plans and hopes for the future.
Since its inception, Belleville Rotary has awarded over $400,000 to BHS students as part of the scholarship program. This year, as in recent years, the primary funding source for the program has been the Charles B. Cozadd Rotary Foundation which assists the club in the funding or partial funding of many of its projects.
