On May 26, the six Michigan Sculpture Initiative pieces that have been on display in the City of Belleville for about a year were removed and replaced with new sculptures.
There are six new sculptures in the city and four sculptures at locations along Belleville Road in Van Buren Township. This is the first time VBT has displayed outdoor sculptures.
The ten sculptures are being leased for public display for a year at a total cost of about $21,000, paid in a joint program by the Downtown Development Authorities in the city and the township.
The sculptures are available for purchase in a year and the artists have posted their asking prices.
The sculptures:
“Storm Tree” by Robert Garcia is placed at the Davenport Center on E. Columbia Avenue in Belleville. Cost to purchase the sculpture is $4,000.
“The Sun with Two Moons” by Dave Vande Vusse is at Five Points in Belleville. Cost to purchase the sculpture is $7,500.
“The Veteran” by Mike Sohikian is at the Fourth Street Square in Belleville. Cost to purchase the sculpture is $9,500.
“Riding High” by Elisabeth Scheffert is in front of Chase Bank. Cost to purchase the sculpture is $2,500.
“Lupine” by Pamela Reithmeier is at the Walgreen store on Belleville Road in Van Buren Township. Cost to purchase the sculpture is $4,500.
“Self Series VIIII” by the Nordin Brothers – Israel and Erik Nordin – is between Applebee’s and Taco Bell on Belleville Road in Van Buren Township. Cost to purchase the sculpture is $21,000.
“Gustometer” by Beau Bilenki is at the triangle at Belleville and Quirk roads in Van Buren Township. Cost to purchase the sculpture is $15,000.
“Venus Redux” by Marie Brown is at the entrance to the City of Belleville on Main Street and Denton Road. Cost to purchase the sculpture is $6,000.
“Icarus” by Mike Sohikian is in Horizon Park on High Street in the City of Belleville. Cost to purchase the sculpture is $10,000.
“Box of Flowers” by Jennifer Meyer is in front of Belle Tire on Belleville Road in Van Buren Township. Cost to purchase the sculpture is $1,600.
