At its Dec. 9 regular meeting the Sumpter Township Board of Trustees voted unanimously for a moratorium on marijuana provisionary centers and dispensaries in the township. They did not put a time limit on the moratorium.
Township attorney Rob Young said the provisionary centers and dispensaries are not legal now, but this moratorium would be appropriate.
“If the state doesn’t take action by the end of the year, we’ll go ahead with our own ordinance,” Young said.
A township committee has been working on an ordinance to keep such centers in commercial areas and out of residential neighborhoods.
