At its regular meeting Oct. 8, the Sumpter Township Planning Commission set two public hearings for its next regular meeting on Nov. 12.
At 7:05 p.m., public comment will be sought on a revised draft of zoning text amendments relating to detached accessory building in residential zoning.
At 7:10 p.m., public comment will be sought on the request to rezone 51100 Willis Road from Light Industrial to Rural Small Farm zoning.
At its Oct. 8 meeting a public hearing was held on proposed amendments to the revised draft of zoning text amendments relating to Automobile, Farm Equipment, and Recreational Vehicle Sales on residential property.
The amendment limits the number of vehicles registered to the property owner for sale to two at one time for 90 days in a calendar year.
The standard requiring the vehicles for sale to have valid license plates is removed and the township will depend on the blight ordinance for problems.
There are new definitions for autos and farm equipment and the definition of sales showrooms is changed.
Trustee Matt Oddy questioned the parts of the current ordinance on auto repair shops or gas stations not being allowed to sell cars.
Matthew Lonnerstater of Carlisle Wortman, the township’s zoning administrator, said he would recommend getting rid of that provision.
Oddy said he wanted to look more closely at the wording, so the township isn’t restraining body shops or other similar businesses from doing what they want to do.
There were no public comments and after the commission discussed the changes it was decided to send the amendments back to Lonnerstater for revisions. The amendments will be voted on at the Nov. 12 meeting and sent on to the township board for final action.
