Out of the 21 participants Sumpter Township had in the recent Western Wayne County Senior Olympics, Sumpter people got 28 medals.
“I think Sumpter was the only community to get more medals than it had participants,” said Senior Director Mary Ann Watson.
She read the winners to the Sumpter Township Board of Trustees at its regular meeting on Aug. 25:
• Pauline Armatis, 2 gold medals, 1 silver, 2 bronze for crochet, needlework, baking, bocce ball, Frisbee;
• Connie Folks, 3 gold medals, 1 silver, 2 bronze for baking, biking, basketball;
• Barbara Zierle, 1 bronze for drawing;
• Patricia Sheppard, 2 silver, 1 bronze for baking, trivia;
• Juanita Johnson-Owens, 1 bronze for baking;
• Beverly Powell, 2 gold medals for basketball, Frisbee;
• Frances Quinney, 1 silver, 1 bronze for Frisbee, basketball;
• Ed Kaminsky, 1 gold for bocce ball;
• Helen Krajewski, 1 gold for bocce ball;
• Bonnie Rish, 2 bronze for crochet, WII Bowl;
• Paulette Thompson, 1 gold, 2 bronze for Frisbee, soccerkick, softball throw;
• Betty Parmalee, 1 gold for Frisbee;
• Jackie Hanson, 1 gold for pinochle;
• Mary Sherwood, 1 bronze for trivia.
