Four horses were loose and crossing back and forth on Willow Road near the entrance to Oakville Metropark early the morning of Sept. 11.
Sumpter Pet Care Veterinary Technician Lisa Czarnik saw the potential for harm to the horses and to drivers if an accident occurred and stepped into action. She phoned 911. The call was answered by Huron Township Police Officer Keith Nickrand, Badge #24.
He and Metropark Officer Josh, along with Lisa and a Good Samaritan, were able to round up three of the four horses – a paint pony and two miniature horses, and put dog leads on them to help hold them.
The fourth horse was spooked by traffic and ran southwest into the wooded area adjacent to or part of the metropark. He was later found back in his home yard.
As more help came along, Lisa left to find lead ropes and a halter to hold and better lead the horses away from the road.
The situation was stabilized and once the owner was identified the remaining three horses were discharged to their owner.
