Winner of the Belleville SOUP competition on March 29 was the New Tech team made up of Belleville High School sophomores presenting a plan for Blessing Bags.
Team members were presented with a $500 check from the Belleville Downtown Development Authority to get their project going.Teams members are Katelynn Tripp, Corbin Fields, Nia Smith, and Trinity Campbell.
Blessing Bags were inspired by the information that 63% of children in Wayne County qualify for free and reduced lunches at school. The bags will contain personal necessities, including toothbrushes, toothpaste, toilet paper, etc., and will be distributed with help of churches just before Christmas.
Other teams presented Belleville Ball-Out, Tiger Wash, and Live Entertainment. Each team presented its project and then those attending the dinner voted for their favorites.
