Sixteen local students had parts in two presentations on Saturday, May 18, of “The Pied Piper” at McBride Middle School. The show was put on by the Missoula Children’s Theatre, which came to town on Monday with costumes, a set, and two directors – Alicia Batterson and Billy Speed.
Students came for auditions on Monday and then practiced every afternoon until the shows on Saturday, which were well-attended. Missoula is partially supported by the National Endowment for the Arts and the Montana Arts Council.
Bringing the Missoula to town was the Belleville Area Council for the Arts, with a generous donation from the Belleville Rotary Charles B. Cozadd Foundation. Many others in the community donated to make the show a success.
Barbara Rogalle Miller, who spearheaded getting the Missoula back to town, said next year they hope to bring Missoula during the summer. The first Missoula came to Sumpter Township in 1992 and there were eight years of shows and then a 20-year hiatus.
