The Michigan Opera Theatre Children’s Chorus will perform a fully staged production of “The Very Last Green Thing” at 2:30 p.m. Saturday, April 25, at the Detroit Opera House.
Kelsey Ross will be directing
and Dianna Hochella will be conducting.
One child from the Belleville area will perform in this production, Shiloh Beaton, 12, a sixth-grade student at Keystone Academy.
Joining the stage in a pre-opera presentation will be the Michigan Science Center with its presentation “Go Green!” This interactive demonstration will showcase water-saving measures, a composting recipe, ways to recycle various materials, how landfills work, and more.
Shiloh has lived in Belleville all her life. She was just invited to be a member of Keystone’s National Junior Honor Society. She has one older brother Nigel Zion Beaton, a sophomore at Belleville High School, where he is a 4.05 GPA honor student and on the Belleville Varsity Men’s Soccer Team, Michigan Wolves 99 Black Team, and the Olympic Development Michigan 1999 Boys’ Team.
Shiloh and Zion are the children of Nigel and Eloi Beaton.
At age 4, Shiloh was crowned Lil Miss Strawberry Princess at the Belleville Strawberry Festival. By age 8, she was performing in musicals for Spotlight on Youth in Canton. By age 10, she had the honor of performing at Disney World in Orlando. She has sung the National Anthem for BHS and Keystone Academy at various sporting events.
To hear her singing see: https://youtu.be/pgMbT9Ghv1k . Shiloh also will be in the July 2015 catalog of American Girl.
Shiloh is a first-year member of the Michigan Opera Theater Children’s Chorus – Principal (main) Choir.
For the show, Shiloh will be playing a student in the future.
Our future students are raised by an android and the planet has become environmentally challenged. A group of children are taken on a rare field trip outside where everyone has to wear protective goggles and masks to deal with the degraded conditions.
A shy and obedient member discovers something extremely unusual for the year 2492. It’s a small, withered plant – the very last green thing on earth. Soon, all of the classmates confront the truth of their environmental past and the importance of preserving the world around us for generations to come.
