Romulus Mayor Robert McCraight has been selected as a participant in the gruelling, 10,000-mile-long 2024 Hoka Hey Motorcycle Challenge, according to a published report in The News Herald.
The Hoka Hey is known as the toughest motorcycle endurance ride in the country, and only occurs every two years. The challenge will be through various terrain, pushing the rider, as well as machines to their limit.
Several hundred apply to take part in the challenge, but only 100 riders are selected to participate.
The 2024 Hoka Hey will take place starting Aug. 4 and over a 10-day period and will begin in the southernmost point of the United States and culminate at the northernmost point of the country.
Each participant is encouraged to seek out a charity and use the challenge to help raise funds for that cause. McCraight has chosen Foundation 14 as the charity.
Foundation 14 is a non-profit organization dedicated to keeping veterans riding motorcycles. The mayor’s goal for the Hoka Hey Challenge is to raise $14,000 in order to allow his charity to continue its mission of helping combat veterans.
Those interested in supporting McCraight’s efforts can do so by donating through a GoFundMe that has been established at: shorturl.at/XlgYx .
