The City of Romulus is looking for individuals and organizations to participate in its first annual Veterans Day Parade at 9 a.m., Nov. 11.
Veterans and their families are asked to take part in the parade. The City will be providing floats and trailers for veterans and families to ride on, if they wish.
Anyone is welcome to enter the parade with a walking or motorized display with a patriotic theme. All veterans and parade entries should meet at the Romulus Progressive Hall, 11580 Ozga, starting at 8 a.m.
The parade route will travel from the Progressive Hall, across Ozga and through the Romulus Wesleyan Church parking lot onto Goddard Road and go north, turning right on Bibbins and traveling east to Hunt Street where the parade will turn left, ending at the Romulus Historical Park, 11147 Hunt Street.
At the Park, a Veterans Day Ceremony will take place with involvement from local VFW Post 9568 and other community members. The start of this ceremony will be a ribbon cutting for the new Veterans Plaza and rededication of the World War I Memorial.
“Spectators are needed along the parade route and at the Veterans Plaza Ceremony to give the veterans the appreciation and honor they deserve,” said Maria Lambert, director of the Downtown Development Authority which funded the Veterans Plaza Project.
In June, Mayor LeRoy Burcroff formed a new committee to facilitate veterans’ programs and outreach in the city.
“The freedoms we share and live today are a result of our heroic veterans and for this we should continue to support them whenever we can,” said Mayor Burcroff.
Romulus Public Services Director, Robert McCraight, chairs the committee.
“The city of Romulus is home to over 1,700 veterans and our mission is to honor and assist them whenever we can,” McCraight said.
