At the July 26 meeting of the Sumpter Township Board of Trustees, neighbors from the 50500 block of Willis Road protested the clearing of 40 acres next door to their home for a marijuana growing business.
Another neighbor said he was shown the blueprints for the project, which includes two big retention ponds, a large dispensary/retail shop, two massive outbuildings to grow the product, and two other buildings.
Davenport Brothers is clear-cutting the land for the owner and they have township permits, said the neighbors.
One neighbor said the work has gone 30 feet onto his property and cut down their big trees. Also irons have been ripped out in the back of his property, he said.
No permits for buildings have yet been issued by the township.
