Glenn Herring, 57, of Romulus, was pronounced dead at the scene of a motorcycle-vehicle accident at the corner of Hannan Road and the South I-94 Service Drive shortly after 9:38 p.m. Saturday.
Van Buren Township Police Lt. Kenneth Floro said the preliminary investigation showed that a 20-year-old Ypsilanti man was driving a GMC Yukon sport utility vehicle westbound on Northline Road when he collided with a motorcycle traveling south on Hannan Road.
Both of those on the motorcycle were ejected as a result of the collision. The passenger, Jacquelynn Garcia, 50, of Romulus, suffered extensive injures and was transported by Health Link to Oakwood Hospital in Dearborn, where she was listed in critical condition, Lt. Floro said.
The driver of the Yukon did not suffer any injuries in the accident and was released at the scene.
The VBT Accident Investigation Team was called to the scene to investigate and collect evidence. Alcohol does not appear to be a factor and the incident remains under investigation, Lt. Floro said.
Besides the VBT Public Safety Department, called to the scene were the Romulus Police and Fire Departments, Health Link and Huron Valley Ambulance.
Anyone with information about the incident is asked to contact VBT Police Detective Mark Buxton at (734) 699-8917.
