Lydia Marvaso, 11, a sixth-grade student in the Gifted and Talented program at Owen Intermediate School, recently competed in The Amazing Girl and Miss Pageant.
Lydia won the 2015 title of Miss Michigan Amazing in the Young Miss Division.
She is the daughter of Larry and Marianne Marvaso of Van Buren Township.
The pageant is a program of the Thelma Clarke Organization for Youth Advancement, named after the late mother of Michigan Congressman Hansen Clarke.
Lydia competed in three events held over two days where she was measured on her abilities to effectively communicate during a panel interview session with judges. She also modeled a high-fashion outfit in a runway-style event and walked the stage in her formal-wear dress.
The young ladies in the contest are taught that poise, confidence, individual values, diversity, and respect of oneself and others are the qualities necessary to be a role model for other girls.
The mission of the organization is to offer girls a unique experience by providing them opportunities in community leadership, development, volunteerism, public speaking, and public relations.
Lydia is a recent graduate of the John Robert Powers School and Model Agency. She has been competing in Michigan pageants since 2013 when she was a state finalist. She finished as fourth runner-up and advanced to the Nationals held in Hollywood CA later that same year. In 2014, she finished in the top 15 and won fourth place in the Top Model competition.
Lydia enjoys travel and being exposed to diverse cultures. She has traveled to Germany, Spain, Italy, France, England, Mexico, Canada, Florida, and her favorite, California.
She enjoys spending her free time Hip-Hop dancing at the local studio, practicing her clarinet, studying, crafting, or simply spending time with friends. In addition, she enjoys giving back to the community by volunteering at the local Gleaner’s Food Bank and participating in Arthritis Walks.
She will be representing Belleville in a variety of parades and charity events.
