The Secretary of State Southwest Wayne County PLUS Office in Belleville will be closed for several days this month as it moves to a new location in town that features upgrades, Secretary of State Ruth Johnson announced.
She said customers and staff will benefit from improvements that include a larger lobby, public restrooms, power-assist entry doors, abundant parking, new counters, new paint, and carpeting.
The office will continue to offer 24/7 access to a Self-Service Station, which provides a convenient option for customers renewing their license plate tabs.
The Secretary of State office at 795 Sumpter Road will be closed as of Monday, July 14, and will reopen at 9 a.m. on Monday, July 21, in the newly constructed Davenport Plaza at 164 E. Columbia Ave.
Johnson said the new location is about one mile northeast of the existing location and only one block from the heart of Belleville, offering easier access to residents.
Office hours remain unchanged: 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. on Monday, Tuesday, Thursday and Friday; and 9 a.m. to 7 p.m. on Wednesday.
“Moving the Belleville office to a new location is part of our mission to provide convenient services to customers while using taxpayer dollars efficiently,” Johnson said.
“Area residents can do many time-saving transactions with us online, but if they have to visit, they will benefit from this improved office.”
People who need to renew license plates, driver’s licenses and ID cards or change their address can do business online at www.ExpressSOS.com or by mail. Easy to follow instructions can be found with the renewal notice. Additional services can be done online as well.
Those who need to visit a Secretary of State office for services during the relocation have several alternatives to the Belleville office:

• West Wayne Co. PLUS, 8565 N. Lilley Road, Canton;
