Johnny Vawters has resigned as Sumpter Township Supervisor as of Nov. 20. The township board is expected to accept his resignation at its Nov. 25 meeting.
Vawters said the stroke he suffered more than a year ago was the reason. Although he is better, he cannot continue in the township’s leadership role, he said.
Sumpter has been filling in the void over the last year, with Treasurer John Morgan doing what he could as acting supervisor, but, now the board must appoint a supervisor within a certain number of days and is expected to do that at its Nov. 25 meeting. Morgan is expected to get that post.
