Denise Daly of Belleville has won the Michigan Horseshoe Pitching Association Women’s Singles Championship 2023 that was held in Jackson.
Denise is also a World Horseshoe Pitching Association title holder as well as an Illinois State champ.
Denise met her fiancée Mark Burns II of Belleville at the World Championships several years ago when they fell in love and she moved to Belleville to be with him.
The two lived in St. Petersburg, FL from 2020 to 2022 where they also won championships before moving back to Belleville to marry and have a family.
The Independent published a story on Mark Burns in 2015 when he won the title of Men’s World Champion Horseshoe Pitcher of 2015. He is a former employee of Brown Funeral Home in Belleville and had worked at the University of Michigan.
The two-week world tournament is held each summer to crown class champions and the overall World Champion horseshoe pitcher in each of eight divisions.
To qualify for the world championships, individuals must have competed in at least four sanctioned tournaments before a date in May.
Mark Burns and Mark Burns II were among the 31 members of the Michigan Horseshoe Pitchers Association who attended the competition in Topeka in 2015.
