The Sept. 15 spaghetti dinner at the Ypsilanti Eagles was intended to raise funds for the Friends of Michigan Animals Rescue spay and neuter program.
But, now that Sumpter Township is requiring expensive paperwork to build kennels – and the grant to fund half of the work may expire – the spaghetti dinner has been changed to benefit the kennel plans.
The dinner is from 6 to 8 p.m. at the Ypsilanti Eagles, 2935 Holmes Road, Ypsilanti 48198. There will also be raffles and a bake sale. Tickets are $10 for adults and kids 13 and up, $6 for kids 12 and under, with kids 2 and under eating free.
Marcie LaFramboise, vice president of FMAR, said because of the information printed in the Independent, FMAR has found a couple of people that will give them a big discount for the required prints.
But, she said, FMAR has been informed it needs a survey first, that will cost about $2,000, including a discount.
Because of the urgency surrounding the grant, the “Spayghetti” dinner, if it is successful, will replenish some of the money being expended on the plans, LaFramboise said.
She said it is heartwarming to see all of the support FMAR is getting: “$20 here and there and even a $260 donation from Tracie’s welding shop down the street. We are blessed.”
