Fire extinguished quickly in apartment complex hallway closet

Van Buren Township fire fighters were called to a fire at about 2 p.m. Sunday, Jan. 17, at the Providence at Harbour Club apartment complex at 29060 Denton Road.
It turned out to be a fire at the water heater located in a second-floor closet in the hallway, said Fire Chief Dan Besson.
A bystander used a fire extinguisher to put the fire out prior to arrival of the fire department, Chief Besson said. He said the fire did not extend anywhere, there was no significant damage, and there were no injuries. The fire fighters turned the scene over to maintenance.
Chief Besson said on Monday he had yet to read the report on the fire because it was a holiday and so he didn’t know if a cause had been determined. Everyone past the duty crews were cleared pretty quickly, he said.
