At the April 10 meeting of the Belleville Area District Library Board no one was daunted by a forecast of rain all day Saturday, April 14.
They are having their groundbreaking for the new library, rain or not. The ceremony begins at 11 a.m. on the grass in front of the present library. There’s no where to dig in the street where the library will actually go, so they’ll use the lawn.
Library Board member John Juriga might bring a tent for the board members to huddle under for the ceremonial digging if hard rain seems at hand.
They’ve got small swag bags to pass out, construction hats to wear, little puppy dolls with hard hats and, hopefully, about 30 T-shirts with the groundbreaking logo on the front. Of course, there’s cake and coffee.
Board chairwoman Sharon Peters hopes her doctor will reduce the size of the protective cover on her healing broken ankle for the event. Whatever. She’ll be there.
The board had worked hard to get a new library approved by voters and now they are ecstatic that the library is coming at last. They are very excited about the ground breaking.
Let’s all join in on the community celebration of a new, large, beautiful building downtown that will change the face of Belleville forever.
See you on Saturday. You might want to bring an umbrella.

Loved the library – +Debby – Mary Jo – Sandy – just a few of the names engraved in my memory. Now living in Missouri but nothing takes the place of Sunrise Lane in my memories of over 50 years. I was a member of the Friends for so many years -all good memories. Thanks for sharing!
