The Southwestern Wayne Democratic Club announces Congresswoman Debbie Dingell will be its special guest at the annual Chili Cook-Off event from 5:30 to 7:30 p.m., Friday, March 23, at the UAW 898 Hall, 8975 Textile Road, Ypsilanti.
Dana Nessel, candidate for state attorney general, also will be attending. The club hopes to have two or more gubernatorial candidates in attendance, along with too many local leaders and candidates to list.
The club expects to be joined by State Senator Hoon-Yung Hopgood and several State Representatives, including Erika Geiss, House District 12 and candidate for State Senate District 6, and chili competitor State Rep. Kristy Pagan, House District 21, known for her backseat vegie chili, and State Rep. Darrin Camilleri, House District 23, former Chili Cook-Off champion.
Monroe County Clerk/Treasurer Michelle LaVoy, former Christmas Cookie champion, is running for State Representative for House District 17 and will be joining the event.
Club president Terree O’Neil Darling warns those attending to keep an eye out as the other legislators and candidates try to rip the medal off Rep. Camilleri’s neck. They are tired of him wearing his medallion on the House floor and mentioning his “award winning chili” at committee meetings, she said.
The club’s corresponding secretary Debbie Chamberlain is defending her title as the overall Chili Cook-Off Winner for three years in a row.
The club is accepting basket donations for the silent auction and fishbowl raffle.
Most tickets are $10, with special rates for seniors, veterans, and children.
For tickets, contact any executive board member or O’Neil Darling at (313) 971-5027 or [email protected] or get tickets at the door.
