Mark Anthony Shaw, 39, of Missouri City, TX, was arraigned on the information on July 31 at the Frank Murphy Hall of Justice on charges of first-degree murder and felony firearm.
He is charged with the shooting death of Stafford Segree, 47, of Van Nuys, CA, on June 28 in a Van Buren Township alley. Both the defendant and the victim were long-distance truckers.
Circuit Court Judge Shannon N. Walker signed an order for production of the transcript of the 34th District Court’s preliminary exam and set a final conference of Sept. 18.
Judge Walker set a jury trial for April 8, 2024. Shaw is being held without bond in the Wayne County Jail.
Armeka Devonta-Marquis Thomas
Armeka Devonta-Marquis Thomas, 30, of Ypsilanti was before Judge Martin by zoom on Aug. 2 from the Wayne County Jail for his probable cause conference on 16 charges from an incident on July 19 on Rawsonville Road near Grove Road in Van Buren Township that involved drugs, weapons, and assaulting a police officer.
His preliminary exam was set for Sept. 14. His bond was set at $50,000 cash and his attorney Carolyn Chapman asked for a bond review and also noted that she needs discovery.
John Edward Delaney
John Edward Delaney, 62, of Van Buren Township, was arraigned in person by Judge Oakley on Aug. 3 on a charge of assault and battery on June 30 in Van Buren Township. The proceedings were adjourned for an arraignment / pretrial on Sept. 21 before Judge Oakley.
Alexander Joseph Forsythe
Alexander Joseph Forsythe, 30, of Livonia and formerly of Van Buren Township, had his preliminary exam on Aug. 1 on a remand order on domestic violence-3rd on Nov. 13 and was bound back over to circuit court for an Aug. 8 arraignment on the information, reset by the court to Aug. 4.
On May 22, he had been referred back from circuit court for an exam. He remains in the Wayne County Jail.
Timothy James Eddins
Timothy James Eddins, 55, of Willis Village, was arraigned on Aug. 4 by Judge Oakley on a charge of larceny under $200 on June 20 in Van Buren Township. His arraignment/pretrial was adjourned for discovery until Aug. 17.
Jeremy Douglas Branham
Jeremy Douglas Branham, 41, of Sumpter Township, is charged with assault with intent to do great bodily harm less than murder and domestic violence-third offense notice on July 13 in Sumpter Township. He was present by zoom for his probable cause conference on July 26 and his attorney asked to adjourn the case for discovery. Judge Martin reset the probable cause conference to Aug. 2. At that time, the preliminary exam was set for Oct. 25. Judge Martin gave him permission to go to North Carolina for his work, but the prosecutor must be given the address and the dates. There is a no-contact order, but there may be contact to provide for their child. Personal bond is $5,000.
Robert Jefferson Blossom
Robert Jefferson Blossom, 58, of Whittaker, is charged with operating while intoxicated-third, blood alcohol content of .17 or more, driving with open intoxicants, and driving while license suspended on June 8, 2021 in Sumpter Township. Defense attorney James Murray said this is a 2021 case that was authorized in April 2023. He said he talked to Det. John Toth about the case when it was filed, but Toth has now retired. The defendant was present for the arraignment/probable cause conference by zoom on July 26 and his warrant was recalled. A probable cause conference was set for Aug. 30. Personal bond is $10,000.
Wade Douglas McKenzie
Wade Douglas McKenzie, 55, of Ypsilanti, is charged with operating while intoxicated-third and driving while license suspended on March 27, 2017 in Van Buren Township. He was video-arraigned while in custody of Van Buren police on July 17 and present for his probable cause conference on July 26. His preliminary exam was set for Sept. 6.
Carmichael Julian Chavis
At his preliminary exam on Aug. 2, Carmichael Julian Chavis, 24, of Van Buren Township has a charge of breaking and entering with intent dismissed by the prosecution and he pled guilty to assault & battery and malicious destruction of a building from $200 to #1,000.
He was fined $795 for the assault & battery charge and $545 for the malicious destruction of a building charge.
All the charges were from an incident on Feb. 25 in Van Buren Township.
Chavis currently is in the Saginaw Correctional Facility on an alleged parole violation. He was on parole from his sentence from armed robbery, conspiracy for armed robbery and assault with intent to do great bodily harm less than murder on Aug. 26, 2014.
