James Edward Gibson, 50, waived his preliminary exam on a charge of aggravated indecent exposure in Van Buren Township and was bound over to the Frank Murphy Hall of Justice to face the higher court.
On July 22, 34th District Court Judge David Parrott ordered Gibson to appear in Detroit for his arraignment on the information at 9 a.m. July 29.
Gibson was lodged in the Wayne County Jail on $10,000 or 10% bond and his court-appointed attorney David Lankford asked for a reduced bond. Judge Parrott instead referred Gibson to pretrial services to assess the bond.
Judge Parrott said because of Gibson’s record he did not wish to reduce the bond.
Lankford pointed out that the charge against Gibson, which may be two counts with a degree of overlap, carries a penalty of 1 day to life. According to Michigan law if the person exposing himself is a sexually delinquent person, the penalty is more severe.
Gibson is a habitual offender. VBT Det. Donovan McCarthy is the officer in charge.
