Jonathon Edward Hughes
Jonathon Edward Hughes, 43, of New Boston had his bench warrant arraignment by zoom while in custody on Aug. 11, 2023 after not appearing to face Dec. 16, 2022 charges of possession of narcotics paraphernalia, driving while license suspended, and receiving and concealing stolen property less than $200 in Van Buren Township. Judge Green set his pretrial for Sept. 7, 2023. Personal bond is $10,000. He failed to appear. On Sept. 11 a bench warrant was issued.
On Oct. 27 the defendant was in custody and arraigned on his bench warrant. He was scheduled for a remote pretrial by zoom on Nov. 16. On Nov. 13, he was arraigned on a Nov. 10 offense of fleeing police in a vehicle and possession of narcotics in Van Buren Township. His probable cause conference was set for Nov. 22. A preliminary examination was set for Jan. 3, but the post office said the court notice could not be delivered and was returned. He failed to appear and so a bench warrant was issued.
On Sept. 26, 2024 he was video-arraigned while in custody by Magistrate Hindman on the bench warrant on the original charges. Bond was set at $3,000/10% and a remote pretrial set for Oct. 17.
He also was arraigned on a new charge of fleeing a police officer and possession of narcotic or cocaine on Nov. 10, 2023 in Van Buren Township. Probable cause conference was set for Oct. 9 and bond set at $5,000/10%.
Another new charge was possession of narcotic or cocaine on Aug. 11, 2023, a charge brought by Western Wayne Narcotics. A probable cause conference was set for Oct. 9 and bond set at $3,000/10%.
William Raymond Pitt
William Raymond Pitt, 39, of Whittaker was arraigned on a bench warrant on Aug. 10 for fleeing police in a vehicle, operating while intoxicated-3rd, driving while license suspended, reckless driving and open intoxicant on Nov. 9 in Van Buren Township. Bond was set at $5,000/10% and alcohol tether. The probable cause conference was set for Aug. 23. At that time, he waived his exam and was bound over to circuit court for an arraignment on the information on Aug. 30. On Sept. 7 he pled guilty to fleeing a police officer and operating under the influence of liquor / per se / 3rd offense / felony and the other three charges were dismissed. He was sentenced to one year, six months to five years in state confinement and was given credit for 57 days of time served. Also, there was a fine of $198.
James Daniel Patterson
James Daniel Patterson, 22, of Van Buren Township was video-arraigned in custody on Aug. 10 on charges of retail fraud on Feb. 8 and 9, 2023 in Van Buren Township. He had failed to appear for his court dates. His pretrials were set for Sept. 7, 2023 and his personal bond set at $3,000 each case. On Sept. 6, 2023 it was noted that the attempts for the court to contact him for documents have been unsuccessful and the court will try to locate the defendant before a show-cause hearing is set. On Sept. 11, 2023 a bench warrant was issued for his arrest. On July 18, 2024 he pled guilty and his case was sent to probation for a pre-sentence interview. The necessary paperwork was required by Aug. 5, but it did not appear. An interview was set for Aug. 13. Sentencing was set for Aug. 15 and then moved to Oct. 7.
Juan Carlos Darty
Juan Carlos Darty, 43, of Van Buren Township was scheduled for his preliminary exam on Oct. 11 on 12 charges concerning assault and firearms on Aug. 20, 2023 in Van Buren Township.
The preliminary exam was reset for Nov. 22. Surety bond of $25,000 was posted by a bail bondsman. A GPS tether and house arrest is part of the bond and he must not contact the victims or return to the scene of the incident.
He is charged with two counts of assault with intent to murder, two counts of assault with intent to inflict great bodily harm less than murder, two counts of assault, and six weapons counts.
On Nov. 22, the exam was held and he was bound over to circuit court for a Dec. 6 arraignment on the information. Final conference was Jan. 24 and a jury trial was March 4. The jury trial was canceled by the court and a pretrial set for April 3.
The pretrial was set for June 5 and a jury trial Aug. 28. That was adjourned and a pretrial set for Nov. 13.
Daniel Neil Oliver
Daniel Neil Oliver, 45, of Sumpter Township is charged with operating while intoxicated-third offense and driving while license suspended-second offense on Aug. 16, 2022 in Sumpter Township.
He was present for his arraignment/probable cause conference on June 14. Judge Martin set a personal bond of $10,000 and adjourned the probable cause conference to June 28 for discovery. His preliminary exam was set for Sept. 20 and then changed into a probable cause conference for Oct. 11.
The probable cause conference then was reset to Nov. 22 for Sobriety Court consideration. A live exam was set for Jan. 3 and at that time the exam was waived and the defendant bound over to circuit court for a Jan. 17 arraignment on the information. A calendar conference was held Feb. 9 and a final conference was set for March 8 followed by an April 3 jury trial.
On March 25, he pled guilty to both charges and the jury trial was canceled. Sentencing was May 28. Total fees were $2,398 and he was confined to the Michigan Department of Corrections for a term from 1 to 5 years with 11 days credit for time served.
Jayla Dawn Wilkerson
Jayla Dawn Wilkerson, 26, of Sumpter Township, was in Stonecrest Hospital and could not be present in person for her probable cause conference before Judge Martin on Oct. 18. Judge Martin adjourned her probable cause conference until Nov. 1 in person.
On Nov. 1 she was in-patient at Stonecrest, so her probable cause conference was rescheduled for Dec. 6. At that time a preliminary exam was set for Jan. 17. She waived her preliminary exam and was bound over to circuit court for a Jan. 31 arraignment on the information, adjourned until Feb. 8 reset until Feb. 9. A final conference was set for March 1 and a jury trial for March 25. On March 18 she pled guilty to one count of deliver/manufacture controlled substance and one count of carrying a concealed weapon. The rest of the charges were dismissed. The trial was canceled and sentencing set for April 18 and reset to May 1.
She had been charged with a count of deliver/manufacture narcotic or cocaine over 50 grams, deliver/manufacture schedule 1, 2, 3 drugs except for marijuana or cocaine, receiving and concealing firearms, carrying a concealed weapon, three counts of felony firearm, and allowed suspended/revoked driver to drive on Oct. 4 in Sumpter Township.
On May 1, she was sentenced to fines and fees of $1,966, two years of probation, and 40 hours of community service.
Robert Derek Jackson
Robert Derek Jackson, 30, of Detroit is charged with carrying a concealed weapon and retail fraud on Sept. 18, 2023 in Van Buren Township. His warrant for failure to appear was canceled at his probable cause conference on Oct. 18.
He waived his preliminary exam and Judge Martin bound him over to circuit court for an arraignment on the information on Nov. 1. A calendar conference was set for Nov. 17 and a motion hearing and final conference for Jan. 5, 2024. A jury trial was set for March 18. That was canceled when he pled guilty to the weapons charge and the retail fraud charge was dismissed. He was sentenced to two years of probation, 80 hours of community service, and fees of $988.
Alexis Kristine Alexander
Alexis Kristine Alexander, 32, of Ypsilanti, failed to appear for her show-cause hearing on Oct. 18, 2023. She is charged with retail fraud-second degree on June 23, 2022 in Van Buren Township. A notice from the post office reported it was unable to deliver the court notice. On Oct. 24, 2023 a bench warrant was issued.
Tamara Marie Perkins
Tamara Marie Perkins of Ypsilanti was scheduled for a show-cause hearing on Oct. 18 for failing to appear on a charge of retail fraud-second degree on June 23, 2022 in Van Buren Township. She failed to appear and on Nov. 2, 2023 a bench warrant was issued.
Kivonte Keith-Valdez Green
Kivonte Keith-Valdez Green, 28, of Ypsilanti, was charged with carrying a concealed weapon and driving while license suspended on July 11, 2023 in Van Buren Township. He was present for his probable cause conference on July 26 and a preliminary exam was set for noon on Sept. 6. But his defense attorney was ill, so the exam was adjourned until Oct. 18.
At that time, he waived his preliminary exam and was bound over to circuit court for an arraignment on the information on Nov. 1. His surety bond of $2,500, which was posted by a bail bondsman, was transferred to circuit court.
A calendar conference was then set for Nov. 13 and reset to Nov. 14. Final conference was set for Jan. 11, 2024 and he pled guilty to the charge of carrying a concealed weapon and his DWLS charge was dismissed. Sentencing was Feb. 9. Fines were $198, probation of two years, and 40 hours of community service.
Stephen Alfred Campbell
Stephen Alfred Campbell of Van Buren Township, is charged with stalking on Sept. 19, 2023 in Van Buren Township and was due for his arraignment/pretrial on Oct. 18. His attorney, Jeff Bowdich, said his client was in the hospital. The prosecutor said on Oct. 15 the defendant violated bond, came to the victim’s home, attempted suicide, and was hospitalized.
Judge Martin adjourned the arraignment/pretrial until Nov. 14. Bond is $10,000 cash or surety.
An aggravated stalking charge on Oct. 16 in Van Buren Township was filed and at a hearing on Nov. 8 a probable cause conference was set for Nov. 22 and then to Dec. 6. Bond was set at $100,000/cash or surety. The original stalking charge had its pretrial reset for Nov. 22 and then to Dec. 6.
On Dec. 6, the defendant waived his preliminary exam on the aggravated stalking felony and it was bound over to circuit court for a Dec. 20 arraignment on the information. The final conference was set for Feb. 1 and the pretrial for Feb. 15. At that time the case was dismissed.
The misdemeanor stalking charge was adjourned to Jan. 10 in district court and then to Feb. 14 when he pled guilty. He was sentenced to a fine of $645, 12 months on a GPS tether, no contact with the victim and to have a psychiatric evaluation.
Deja Janae Bibins
Deja Janae Bibins, 27, of Romulus, was arraigned by Magistrate Al Hindman on Oct. 26 on charges of fleeing a police officer-4th degree and assaulting / resisting / obstructing a police officer on Oct. 24 in Van Buren Township.
She was in custody at Van Buren Police Department for her video-arraignment. Bond was set at $1,500/10% and her probable cause conference scheduled for Nov. 8. At that time, her preliminary exam was set for Dec. 13 and then rescheduled for Jan. 24. On Jan. 23, the preliminary exam was set for March 13.
At that time she waived her preliminary exam and the case was bound over to circuit court for a March 27 arraignment on the information. At that time a calendar conference was set for April 9. A jury trial was then set for July 8 but then canceled when she pled guilty on May 23. She was sentenced to a fee of $831 or 50 hours of community service and two years of probation. She also was ordered to continue with the treatment set up for her in Washtenaw County and to find legitimate employment of 40 hours a week.
Jakeem Rodney Ware
Jakeem Rodney Ware, 23, of Ann Arbor, was present for his Oct. 18 probable cause conference from the Washtenaw County Jail where he was incarcerated on an unrelated matter. He is charged with malicious destruction of property from $1,000 to $20,000 in value and assaulting/resisting/obstructing a police officer on July 21, 2020 in Van Buren Township.
On Oct. 25 he was present by video from the Washtenaw County Jail where he was incarcerated on an unrelated charge. The preliminary exam was set for 11:30 a.m., Jan. 10, 2024. His attorney said by Jan. 10 he is expected to be in custody of the Michigan Department of Corrections, so a writ will be required to get him to court for the exam.
If released, he is not to return to Town and Country mobile home park.
On Jan. 10, Officer McCarthy said there were multiple unsuccessful attempts to reach the victim, so the malicious destruction of property charge was dismissed. The second charge of assaulting/resisting/obstructing police officers Christopher Chris Valinski and Ryan McCormick was dropped to “attempted” assaulting / resisting / obstruction of a police officer and 60 additional days were added to his prison sentence to run concurrent with his present sentence. He is expected to be released in 2025.
Ali Ahmed Hussain
Ali Ahmed Hussain, 35, of Ypsilanti, was present on Oct. 25 for probable cause conferences on two separate charges. One was for two counts of criminal sexual conduct-third degree (force or coercion) and a count of domestic violence on May 16 in Sumpter Township.
The other was for assault with intent to do great bodily harm less than murder / strangulation and domestic violence on July 15 in Sumpter Township.
His attorney said he has no digital discovery and the prosecutor said the complainant was recorded as a walk-in.
The two probable cause conferences were adjourned to Nov. 22 and then to Jan. 10, 2024. Bond is $5,000/10% on each of the two charges and there is to be no contact with the victim. He is not to return to the protected address.
On Jan. 10, he waived his preliminary exams and he was bound over to circuit court for Jan. 17 arraignments on the information, adjourned to Jan. 24. A disposition conference also was set for Jan. 24. A calendar conference was set for Feb. 15 and final conference on March 22 and then April 4 and reset to April 25 and then May 7. A jury trial was set for July 15 and then canceled. A pretrial was set for July 30. On July 30 all the charges were dismissed.
Jacob Marschall Duzan
Jacob Marschall Duzan, 32, formerly of the city of Belleville and now of Eastpointe, is charged with assault or assault and battery on March 28, 2021 in Sumpter Township. He was before Judge Oakley for his pretrial on Nov. 30, 2022. Final pretrial was scheduled for Dec. 7, 2022 and on that date, Judge Oakley dismissed the charges. Case closed.
Duzan, now of Flint, also was charged with open container in a vehicle, carrying a concealed weapon and driving while license suspended on Jan. 2, 2023 in Sumpter Township. His probable cause conference was set for Nov. 1, 2023 but the defendant failed to appear and a bench warrant was issued. On Jan. 31 he was present for his probable cause conference and his preliminary exam was set for April 17 and he waived the exam. He was arraigned on the information at circuit court on May 1. Calendar conference was set for May 15. Final conference is July 3 and jury trial July 31. On July 3, he pled guilty to carrying a concealed weapon and the other two charges were dismissed. On July 26, he was sentenced to a fine of $1,898 and was put on two years of probation.
Joshua Michael Emery
Joshua Michael Emery, 44, of Battle Creek was scheduled for his preliminary exam on Nov. 1, 2023 on charges of possession of weapons by a felon, assault with a dangerous weapon (felonious assault), assaulting/resisting/obstructing a police officer, and three counts of felony firearm on Sept. 5 in Van Buren Township. Personal bond is $25,000.
He failed to appear on Nov. 1 so a bench warrant was issued. Cash/surety bond of $250,000/10% was set.
On Dec. 11, he explained from the Kalamazoo County Jail that he was in a hospital on Nov. 1 due to complications from a from a head injury from Sept. 5.
A probable cause conference was set for Jan. 24, 2024 on all the charges and a preliminary exam was set for March 13. On March 13 he was present by video from the Kalamazoo County Jail for a probable cause conference. His attorney asked for a competency exam and Judge Oakley ordered the exam. The next court date will be set when the exam report is complete. A review was set for April 17, but that was adjourned until July 10 because the competency exam had not been scheduled.
On May 29 his attorney said the exam shows his client to be competent to stand trial and the preliminary exam was set for July 10. At that time he waived the exam and was bound over to circuit court for a July 24 arraignment on the information reset to July 26. A pretrial was set for Sept. 5, reset to Oct. 3, and a jury trial for Dec. 9.
