Correction: Numbers for fireworks companies were shots, not dollars

On page 3 in the May 28 Independent we put dollar signs in front of numbers that should have indicated the number of shots provided by each fireworks company. No dollar signs needed. (Almost always, bids are reported by dollar amounts.)
For instance, Zambelli bid 4,892 (which we learn means shots), Melrose 3,130 and Greatlakes 825.
“So how it reads now it looks like I went with the highest bidder based on cost,” said Jennifer Wright, Director of Van Buren Township Parks and Recreation Department. “Actually we chose Zambelli because they will be able to provide 4,892 total shots. … I don’t want people to think I’m spending more money.”
We regret the misunderstanding and thus the mis-reporting.
Varsity Men’s Golf
The story on page 9 in the May 21 issue of the Independent on Belleville High School Varsity Men’s Golf team league play said the team had two wins and five losses. It should have said four wins and five losses. We regret the confusion.
