The following five trophies were presented by the Belleville Area Chamber of Commerce to five entries in Saturday’s Christmas Parade:
• Best Municipal Float – City of Belleville
• Best Organization Float – Lincoln United Methodist Church
• Best Business Float – CRG Electric
• Best Non-Profit Float – BYC
• Parade Marshal’s Trophy, selected by Bea and Darryl Raymond – Belleville High School Productions
Also riding in the parade in seats of honor were the Chamber’s Business of the Year, Twisted Rooster; Ted Kuckleman Award winner Keith Johnson; and Leona Van Buehler Award winner Craig Atchinson.
The winners of the Christmas decorating contest for Belleville businesses were announced as: Belleville Bariatrics, $100; Barber Bob, $50; and Lunch Box, $25.
At the end of the parade, after climbing down from the Van Buren Township fire truck and receiving the Key to the City of Belleville from Mayor Kerreen Conley, Santa picked out the winning entry for a new car lease for two years or $5,000 cash, offered by the Chamber.
After Santa read the winning name, Mayor Conley called out in surprise, “That’s my mother!”
Winner of the car was Maureen Birch of Dexter.
