Teenagers and younger children often feel confused or shocked at the losses early in their lives, said Jackie Dalzell, grief coordinator at the Brown Family Center in Belleville.
She said it is helpful to provide resources for teens and children to respond to their feelings in the process of grieving.
The Brown Family Center, which is sponsored by the David C. Brown Funeral Home, provides free grief services to the community.
The Center recently donated five books each to Huron and Belleville High Schools. The books are related to grief and mourning and the subject of suicide, Dalzell said.
The process of grief is different for all people, she said. No two people grieve the same, she said.
Many people take it upon themselves to “read” their way to healing, Dalzell said. Providing books to help thoughts of grief is paramount to healing, she added.
