Belleville Police Chief Hal Berriman said his police department will arrest and arraign Samuel Hamilton, 17, of Ypsilanti, on charges of possession of a stolen vehicle, resisting arrest, and fleeing and eluding police — once Washtenaw County is done with him.
Chief Berriman said Washtenaw had other charges against Hamilton and once they are through with him he will be turned over to Belleville to prosecute.
On Feb. 17, Belleville Police chased and apprehended a vehicle that had been stolen out of Van Buren Township on Feb. 12.
Officer Jim Trombley and two reserve officers – Cpl. Nick Johns and Officer Jim Piper – took into custody the 17-year old driver and two juvenile passengers. The three bailed out of the vehicle after it crashed on Henry Street. The reserve officers chased and caught the juveniles near Belleville High School.
