Belleville Lake in front of the Belleville Yacht Club will be closed for safety reasons from 9 to 11 p.m. on Friday, July 3, to all westbound to eastbound boat traffic for the annual BYC fireworks from a barge.
Rain date is Saturday, July 4.
A no-wake zone will be enforced by Van Buren Township Marine Patrol, the Department of Natural Resources, and the Wayne County Sheriff in front of the BYC from 7 to 9 p.m. The fireworks show will begin at dark.
Regulations require a 450-foot exclusion zone around the fireworks barge.
For safety reasons, law enforcement will completely close the lake to boat traffic directly in front of the BYC from 9 to 11 p.m.
Those needing to be back to Sandy’s Marina or any other site east of the BYC after 9 p.m., must be east of the BYC by 9 p.m.
The DNR reminds all that the boat launch is only for those launching and retrieving vessels. The BYC encourages the public to come by boat for the best viewing and to follow social distancing guidelines.
“The BYC and Michigan Fireworks Club is proud to once again provide an amazing fireworks display for residents,” said a statement from the BYC. “Since all other municipal fireworks shows have been cancelled, we thought this would be a great way to celebrate our country’s independence while offering a much-needed escape from the recent turmoil we have experienced. We truly hope you will enjoy the show.”
