The Belleville Community Chorus announces its new director Elisha Miller.
Miller is a conductor, composer, and soprano currently pursuing a master’s degree in Choral Conducting from the University of Michigan.
Previously based in Washington, D.C., she excelled in her role as an associate conductor for the National Children’s Chorus, preparing students for successful performances at Carnegie Hall and for international recordings with the London Symphony Orchestra. In 2021, they won a Grammy Award for Best Choral Performance.
In addition to directing choirs, Miller holds a private studio for voice and piano students, with notable student successes including Broadway International callbacks.
As a soloist, she most recently appeared at the Kennedy Center Concert Hall as a featured soloist in the Washington Chorus’ “Candlelight Christmas” concert series. Miller is also a composer, writing on themes centered around social justice and faith. Her original pieces reflect her belief in music’s transformative power to shape a better world.
When not teaching, directing, or composing, Miller can be found taking a long hike, turning a practice room into a recording studio, or making extravagant messes in the kitchen.
Under her direction, the Belleville Community Chorus will begin rehearsals at 7 p.m., Monday, Sept. 9, for its next concert and its 18th season. Rehearsals and performance are at the First United Methodist Church, 417 Charles St., in Belleville.
The Winter Concert will be offered to the community on Sunday, Dec. 8, at the church. To be part of this chorus, come to rehearsal on Monday a few minutes before 7 p.m. and you will be welcomed. The chorus, is open to all who love music and singing.
The Belleville Community Chorus is a non-profit organization, made up of volunteers who love to sing. They perform a variety of choral music, for the enrichment, education, and enjoyment of their members and audiences in the surrounding communities.
