At the July 15 meeting of the Belleville City Council, city clerk/treasurer Briana Hooten swore in new police officer Michael Pearl. Officer Pearl served on the Williamston Police Department and has four years of experience. Police Chief Kris Faull said “he is a local guy” who was driving all the way to Williamston and back to work. His wife and baby were present for the meeting and his wife pinned his new badge on his uniform.
Belleville Police Officer Charlie Brooks was introduced to the city council, as well. He retired as a sergeant in the traffic bureau after 24.5 years with the Garden City Police Department.
Bart DeVos, who retired as a Belleville police officer on May 1 after eight years with the city, was honored at the meeting. He was given a retirement badge, a plaque, and a fond farewell by Police Chief Faull. He had served 37 years at the Van Buren Township police department before retiring from that department, as well. “He’s one of the best,” said Mayor Ken Voigt. “No doubt about it.”
