Aeris Tabor, age 12, won first place in the Belleville area and second place in the Lions Club district for her entry in the International Lions 2018-19 Peace Poster contest entitled “Kindness Matters.”
Belleville Area Lions Club president Gary Marshall said “Kindness Matters” is a saying that encompasses the way Lions view and serve the world. It’s a powerful sentiment that everyone knows, yet is too often lost, he said. Who better than our youth to remind the world of this powerful and important message, he asked.
Students ages 11 to 13 as of Nov. 15 are eligible to participate in the International Peace Poster Contest. This year’s upcoming contest is entitled “Journey of Peace.”
In explaining her “Kindness Matters” poster, Aeris wrote: “The alligator and the bird are very different creatures, but the bird grooms the alligator’s teeth without being eaten by the alligator. The alligator is big and intimidating, as well. I was thinking that you can’t judge anyone or anything by how they seem, so we can be kind and let people know us by what we do.”
