The Belleville Area Council for the Arts has awarded a scholarship to Belleville High School senior Alston Kilbourne for a Musical Theatre Intensive July 21 to Aug. 3 at Stratford Theatre Arts Camp in Canada.
The camp takes place at the Normal School at the Stratford Festival from 9:30 a.m. to 5 p.m. each day. Each session is led by one director and one assistant director. Camp counselors are hired from university Drama and Education programs to supervise overnight, to and from classes, and during meals and theatre performances.
The cost of the two-week session for grades 9-12 is $3,600 which is being paid by the Belleville-Area Council for the Arts.
Alston, 16, a member of the BHS class of 2025, was in his sophomore year’s high school musical. This year he participated in “Random Acts of Theatre,” playing a character in a SNL skit, a crow from “The Wiz” and Greg Heffley from “Diary of a Wimpy Kid.”
Also during his junior year he played the role of Sky in “Mamma Mia.”
He said that he is extremely grateful for that role and, “No words can describe how much I enjoyed playing this role and how much it helped me grow as an actor.”
