Eleven parcels of land the township owned was sold to bidders as presented to the Sumpter Township Board of Trustees at its Nov. 28 meeting.
The names of the bidders and the other bids submitted for the parcels were not announced.
The motion to accept the bids as presented was passed unanimously, except for Trustee Matthew Oddy’s abstention on three parcels. At the workshop session, Trustee Oddy explained his abstention because of helping people in the process.
The parcels sold and the bid prices accepted were as follows:
• Parcel 81-079-99-0012-000 on Karr Road for $25,501;
• Parcel 81-086-99-0008-709 on Dunn Road for $3,600. Trustee Oddy abstained from the vote on this parcel;
• Parcel 81-088-01-0022-000 on Martinsville Road for $10,000;
• Parcel 81-114-99-0007-000 on Karr Road for $10,000;
• Parcel 81-135-99-0022-700 on Oakville-Waltz Road for $8,500;
• Parcel 81-130-99-0010 on Executive Drive for $6,000;
• Parcel 81-130-99-0003-000 on Arkona Road for $5,000;
• Parcel 81-129-99-0003-000 on Sumpter Road for $2,001. Trustee Oddy abstained from the vote on this parcel;
• Parcel 81-127-99-0008-000 on Karr Road for $10,000. Trustee Oddy abstained from the vote on this parcel;
• Parcel 81-125-99-0006-000 on Elwell Road for $6,001; and
• Parcel 81-108-99-0004-700 on Martinsville Road for $5,102.
In other business at the Nov. 28 regular meeting, the board:
• Approved the Sumpter Township workshop and board meeting schedule for 2018 and the planning commission meeting schedule for 2018;
• Approved closing the township hall from Dec. 25 until Jan. 1, with employees using paid time off or vacation time for Dec. 27 and 28. The township hall will reopen on Jan. 2. The treasurer’s office at township hall will be open from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. on Dec. 29 for payment of taxes;
• Approved the appointment of Dawn Sliwa to the Board of Review to replace Jennifer Massel, with a term to expire in January 2018;
• Accepted the storm water management and maintenance agreement for Fox Auto Parts, Wayne County Permit No. M-49842. [At a later meeting this action was reconsidered and tabled until the design of the project was complete, in a year or so.];
• Tabled action on the auditor’s recommendation to increase the rubbish pick up fee to $27 per quarter. It was expected to be back on the board agenda on Dec. 12, but is yet to be considered;
• Heard Supervisor John Morgan thank Karen Mickens and Lottie Sanders for putting on the free Thanksgiving Day dinner for the community. “The whole thing was out of sight,” Supervisor Morgan said. Although the two were not present at the meeting, people in the audience and on the board gave them a round of applause; and
• Heard Clerk Esther Hurst announce that the Senior Citizen Christmas Party was to be at noon on Dec. 12. It cost $5 for members or they could bring a dish to pass. Guests were $15 each. She also announced 380 meals were delivered in November and 500 were eaten on site. One hundred and forty passengers used the transportation service.
