Christian David Luckett, 25, waived his preliminary exam at 34th District Court on April 19 and Judge Oakley reduced his bond from $75,000 cash or surety to $50,000/10%. He is due to be at circuit court on April 26 for an arraignment on the information.
Luckett is charged with assault with intent to murder, assault with intent to do great bodily harm less than murder and assault with a dangerous weapon in Van Buren Township on April 8.
Luckett was brought to 34th District Court from the medical unit of the Wayne County Jail, where he is on medications. His retained attorney Thomas Stringer said Luckett has mental health problems and works with his father in Ann Arbor. If his bond was reduced he could go home and continue his medications, Stringer said.
After bond was reduced, Stringer took steps to get him released immediately.
Yvonne Kay Murray
Yvonne Kay Murray, 29, waived her preliminary exam April 19 before Judge Brian A. Oakley. She is due in circuit court for an arraignment on the information May 3.
Murray is charged with unlawful driving away of a motor vehicle on Jan. 6 in Van Buren Township. A second charge of removing a mortgaged vehicle from the state was dismissed by the Prosecutor.
Murray is free on $5,000 personal recognizance bond. VBT Officer Mike Long is the officer in charge of the case.
Jeremy Scott Neeley
Jeremy Scott Neeley, 32, did not show up April 19 for his probable cause hearing and a bench warrant for his arrest was signed by Judge Oakley. Neeley is charged with larceny from a building and unauthorized driving away of a motor vehicle in Van Buren Township on Sept. 25. Officer in charge of the case is VBT Detective Ken Toney.
Keaton William Kukola
Keaton William Kukola, 23, was present without his attorney for his probable cause conference. Judge Oakley said the preliminary exam was scheduled for 10 a.m., April 26, when the defendant’s attorney would be present.
Kukola is charged with unarmed robbery and possession or sale of a Taser in VBT on Nov. 21. He is free on $20,000 personal recognizance bond. Officer Mark Buxton is the officer in charge of the case.
Jonathon Edward Hughes
Jonathon Edward Hughes, 35, waived his preliminary exam on a charge of fleeing police in a vehicle on April 8 in VBT. He is free after posting $7,500/10% bond. Hughes is due in circuit court for an arraignment on the information May 3. VBT Detective Donovan McCarthy is the officer in charge of the case.
Andrew Thomas Gowan
Andrew Thomas Gowan, 57, is scheduled for his preliminary exam on April 26 at 34th District Court. He is facing two charges of felonious assault (assault with a dangerous weapon) and one charge of using a weapon to commit a felony in VBT on March 10. Gowan is free on $10,000 personal recognizance bond. VBT Detective Donovan McCarthy is the officer in charge of the case.
Tyrone O Dodson
Tyrone O Dodson, 47, had a probable cause conference scheduled for April 19, but his court-appointed attorney asked that it be adjourned for a week because the wrong file was sent for him. The file sent was for another Dodson.
Dodson is charged with fleeing police in a vehicle and assaulting, resisting, obstructing a police officer in VBT on April 10. He is free on $3,000/10% bond. Detective Donovan McCarthy is the officer in charge of the case.
Jeffery Rates
A May 31 bench trial at district court was set for Jeffery Rates on a charge of operating a vehicle with more than .17 blood alcohol content. Officer in charge of the case is VBT Officer Mark Buxton.
Larry Allen Cozart
A domestic violence charge against Larry Allen Cozart was dismissed without prejudice, which means that it could be refiled in the future. VBT officer in charge of the case was Mark Buxton.
Stephen Peter Kovach
Stephen Peter Kovach, 63, waived his preliminary exam on April 12 and was bound over to circuit court for an arraignment on the information on April 26. His bond of $15,000/10%, that had been posted, was continued.
Kovach is charged with operating while intoxicated – 3rd time, driving while license suspended, driving with an open intoxicant in the vehicle, and failure to have insurance on the vehicle. This is alleged to have happened on Dec. 14, 2015 in the city of Belleville. Officer Jeff Wickham is the officer in charge of the case. Murray Duncan is Kovach’s retained attorney.
Aaron Latrell Patton
Aaron Latrell Patton, 19, was present for his probable cause hearing on a charge of carrying a concealed weapon in VBT on March 31. He is free on $1,000 personal recognizance bond.
His preliminary exam was adjourned to April 26 because his attorney had a murder trial starting on April 20, the day the exam was originally scheduled.
Michael Ray Shores
The pretrial of Michael Ray Shores had been set for April 12, but was adjourned to another date. Shores, a Van Buren Township fire fighter, is charged with four counts of larceny by conversion less than $200 and four counts of false pretenses less than $200 for allegedly taking money from Van Buren Urgent Care employees who were expecting CPR training they said they never received.
Each charge is a 93-day misdemeanor. He is free on a $5,000 personal bond. Firefighter Shores is currently suspended from duty without pay pending an internal investigation.
Marteya Danay Spears
On April 5, Marteya Danay Spears, 29, waived her preliminary exam at 34th District Court and was bound over to circuit court on a felony charge of embezzlement by an agent or trustee of more than $1,000 but less than $20,000. The crime allegedly occurred in VBT on Jan. 21, 2016. Her arraignment on the information was held at the Frank Murphy Hall of Justice on April 19. A deposition conference before Judge Richard M. Skutt was set for April 26. Her retained attorney is Randall Upshaw. She is free on $10,000 personal recognizance bond. VBT Detective Ken Toney is the officer in charge of the case.
Samuel Malcolm Hamilton
Samuel Malcolm Hamilton, 17, of Ypsilanti, waived his preliminary exam April 5 before Chief Judge Tina Brooks Green and was bound over to the Frank Murphy Hall of Justice for an arraignment on the information on April 12. At that time there was a plea before Judge Deborah Thomas and his disposition conference was set for April 27.
He is charged with receiving and concealing a stolen vehicle, fleeing police in a vehicle, and running from a police officer in Belleville on Feb. 17. Officer in charge of the case is Belleville Cpl. Kris Faull.
Hamilton was lodged in the Wayne County Jail on $20,000/10% bond and brought to court for his probable cause conference.
At his probable cause conference, Judge Green noted Hamilton also had a Feb. 20 trespassing charge and she reset his pretrial on that to May 17. His hearings on other charges from Belleville on false reports for ambulance service on Feb. 18, 19 and 19, were reset to April 24. She said that those charges would have personal bond.
On Feb. 17, Belleville Police chased and apprehended a vehicle Hamilton was driving that had been stolen out of Van Buren Township on Feb. 12.
Officer Jim Trombley and two reserve officers – Cpl. Nick Johns and Officer Jim Piper – took into custody the 17-year old driver and two juvenile passengers. The three bailed out of the vehicle after it crashed on Henry Street. The reserve officers chased and caught the juveniles near Belleville High School.
Washtenaw County took Hamilton first to prosecute charges there and then returned him to Wayne County to face these charges. The juveniles are being handled through juvenile court.
