Besides the local township races listed in last week’s Independent, voters will get a chance to decide other offices in the Aug. 7 Primary Election.
Thirty-fourth District Court Judge Tina Brooks Green, however, is unopposed on the August ballot for reelection to a six-year term.
Wayne County Commissioner Kevin McNamara, D, is unopposed in the primary but will face Republican Robert Stano in November. McNamara, an incumbent, recently moved from Canton to 45768 Prairiegrass Ct. in Van Buren Township to stay in the redrawn 11th District. Stano lives at 8909 Millington Ct., also in VBT.
Incumbent State Rep. Dian Slavens, D-Canton, is opposed in the 21st District primary by Kiz Ahamiojie, D-Belleville. The Republican opponent in the 21st District runoff in November will be Joe Barnabei of Romulus. The 21st District includes VBT and the City of Belleville.
In the 17th State Rep. race, three Democrats and one Republican are running. The Democrats who will fight it out in the primary are Jim Pedersen of Sumpter Township, Bill LaVoy of Monroe, and Brian David Hensley of Estral Beach. Facing the Democratic winner in the November election will be Republican Anne Rossio of Carleton. The 17th District encompasses Sumpter Township.
The redrawn U.S. Representative 12th District includes the tri-community. Democrats John Dingell and Daniel Marcin will face off in August, as will Republican candidates Karen Jacobsen and Cynthia Kallgren.
U.S. Senator Debbie Stabnow, incumbent Democrat, is unopposed in the primary. Republicans will vie for the chance to oppose her in November. They are Clark Durant, Gary Glenn, Randy Hekman, Pete Hoekstra, and Peter Konetchy.
Voters will also face a long list of judge candidates.
