Trish Lada of Westland bid $100 at the recent Belleville Area Women’s Club fashion show and won a certificate to spend a day with a judge and have lunch with a judge.
Lada, the daughter of Virginia Truran of Van Buren Township, spent May 14 in Judge David Parrott’s courtroom at 34th District Court in Romulus and then had lunch with a judge.
District Court Administrator/Magistrate Al Hindman showed Lada the judge’s chambers and where the prisoners are held. From there, Lada was treated to a front-row seat in the juror’s box to watch arraignments in Judge Parrott’s courtroom.
Moving across the hall, Lada then had a chair next to Judge Brian Oakley during court proceedings in his courtroom.
She also was introduced to Jeffrey Bowdich, who serves as a court-appointed attorney.
Lada told the Independent that she liked the way Judge Parrott spoke to the defendants and was impressed with how organized and courteous Magistrate Hindman and the guards were.
Proceeds from the Belleville Area Women’s Club silent auction are used to support the club’s scholarship fund. The fashion show brought in just over $6,000, the most they’ve ever raised by the event, according to club member Shelly Brown Chudzinski.
